  • Take a break from time to time

Sitting on a chair for eight to twelve hours a day, maybe even more, will bore you to death. Not only is it unhealthy but it also affects your performance. You will work slower and the quality of your translation will be affected in a negative way. But you can change that by using a simple method.

All you need to do is to get up and walk in your house for a minute or two. That way, you will feel a bit reinvigorated and ready for the next phrases. You can even take a snack, prepare a nice drink, watch a short video, call someone. Just make sure that this break doesn’t last more than 5 minutes.

  • Change your workplace on a regular basis

If you are a freelance translator, you probably have a laptop. If not, you should get one. But why should you invest in a laptop? It is because you can go to a coffee shop, restaurant, park, and work from there. We think that working in the same environment, a.k.a. your home, for a long period can be distracting.

Think of it as upgrading your workplace. Now, depending on how much you procrastinate, you could change your workplace every day or every week. Just find a nice place where you can hang out for a couple of hours, have a nice coffee, breakfast, lunch and so on.

  • No phone, no Internet connection

There are parties where the guests are required to place their phone in a basket upon arrival. Why? It is because people who go to parties should interact and not waste their time on the phone. You can do the same thing when you work from home; just turn off your phone.

If that doesn’t work, just remove the battery and place your phone under your pillow or something. No more phone calls, no more phone messages or alerts. The same thing can be said about your Internet connection. If you don’t need the Internet, just pull the cable out.

If you do need to use the Internet, just log out of your social platform accounts. Social media platforms will most likely impair your workflow and will make you procrastinate like there’s no tomorrow. The same can be said about Youtube, cat videos and memes. Just hang on for a couple of hours.

  • Set up a powerful work schedule

You are a freelancer and you are your own boss. While it is a cool thing, it can also affect your workflow, especially if you are a “professional procrastinator.” It is in your best interest to set up a daily program that you can respect.

It will be hard at first and you will make some mistakes, but try your best to respect it.

  • Listen to music

You can listen to music, podcasts, radio, TV shows and so on. By doing so, you will probably procrastinate less. It is a thing that many freelancers or people who work from home do. Apparently, background noise can make you focus more on your work than working in silence.
